Who hasn’t experienced it? You’re on a tight deadline, and there’s a never-ending list of items coming in your direction!
You’re going to snap—you’re overwhelmed, exhausted, and at your wits end. Now, at that moment, it’s easy to self-sabotage—To do or say things you don’t mean.
You need to de-stress ASAP! And how do you do that? Here are a few quick tips to help you calm down and get your head back in the game.
Deep breaths.
Slow down and focus on your breathing. A few deep breaths in and out will bring more oxygen to your brain and help relax your muscles, ultimately allowing you to reset to a calmer state of mind.
Tip: Make deep breathing even more soothing by closing your eyes and pressing your palms together in a prayer position.
Practice the pause.
Never react on impulse, especially when you’re feeling stretched thin. Instead, take a moment to step back and reframe your thinking. Excess stress tends to bring out negative, pessimistic thoughts, even in the best of us.
As the saying goes, don’t make a permanently stupid decision based on temporary feelings.
Go for a walk.
A brisk walk does wonders to shift your mindset! It pulls you out of the situation and allows you to clear your mind so you can come back and look at things objectively.
Even a 10-20 minute walk can do wonders! And the bonus? It’s also great for your health!
Get organized.
Creating structure among the chaos is a great way to help calm your nerves. Once you’ve taken a break to relax and shift your thinking, you’re ready to come back and create a game plan.
First, make a list and organize your tasks! Then, prioritize based on what’s most important and when you need to have it accomplished. Finally, chew through your list and create windows of time for phone calls and emails so you can stay focused and get items off your plate.
